13-11-2010 Bets Of The Day

13:45 Aston Villa - Manchester United
"The early kick-off takes us to Villa Park for the visit of Manchester United. In Gerard Houllier's short time at Villa Park it is noticeable how close their results have been. Villa have recorded three draws, a narrow victory and a narrow defeat in their last five matches.
"Manchester United's last two visits to Villa Park were both drawn. If we take into account the fact that Chelsea also recorded a 0-0 draw at Villa Park a few weeks back, I don't think it's unlikely that both sides will take a point here in a low-scoring encounter. I am also going to have a treble on Man City, Chesterfield and Berwick which returns about 4.33"
Tips:Aston Villa v Manchester United Draw @ 3.60

16:00 West Ham United - Blackpool
"The both teams to score market can be fruitful for bettors. Last weekend I detected goals in the match between Bolton Wanderers and Tottenham and they didn't let me down with a 4-2 scoreline in favour of the home team.
"West Ham - Blackpool is a game were both teams will be desperate for victory as they both fighting for survival. Blackpool have a daring approach to all their games and will be confident of increasing the pain on the Hammers. With both teams prone to conceding goals I expect each side to score in this match."
Tip: West Ham - Blackpool (both teams to score) @ 1.57

16:00 Leeds United - Bristol City
"Leeds are having an entertaining season back in the second tier. They are brilliant at times, thus dreaming of second successive promotion, but defence should be stabilized in order to achieve it. As things stand now, Simon Grayson’s side is almost unable to keep a clean sheet, amazingly conceding 14 goals in the last 4 home games. Obviously, none of them resulted in a win.
"Bristol City are much better then their current standings show. It took Keith Millen a few weeks to come to terms with his promotion to manager, but now the Robins are putting some very good results together. They are unbeaten in five games, almost winning against league leaders QPR, and stunning in-form Swansea away this very Wednesday.
"Leeds are so dreadfully inconsistent that it makes sense to look for high odds in each of their games. This time it’s even better, since they are facing an underrated outfit that won their last two away games."
Tips: Bristol City to win (4.50). Additionally, both teams to score (1.72) is a very reasonable bet.

13-11-2010 22:00 Barcelona - Villarreal

Going The Wrong Way

Undoubtedly the most eye-catching fixture of the weekend in the Primera Division is Villarreal’s visit to Barcelona on Saturday night, an encounter that pits Real Madrid’s closest rivals in the title race against each other.

Barca presently lie one point behind los Blancos in the standings and will be hopeful of taking temporary charge of the league prior to the capital side’s encounter with Sporting de Gijon on Sunday. But Pep Guardiola’s men cannot afford to treat this fixture lightly; not only are Villarreal in terrific form, la Blaugrana have not always been themselves at Camp Nou this term.

A shock defeat against Hercules and a draw against Mallorca have gone some way to puncturing the aura of invincibility that surrounds the Catalan venue. This is, however, nit-picking to some extent as la Blaugrana have won all of their other eight top flight fixtures this season and have made serene progress in the Copa del Rey, in which they defeated Ceuta 5-1 on Wednesday with the help of several fringe players and youngsters.

Guardiola has persistently fought off claims that his side aren’t playing as well as they have done over the course of the last two years, but the real test for the very best sides always comes in the biggest matches. Make no mistake, Saturday evening’s encounter is huge, and Barcelona will be very much focussed towards it.

A Third Force?

At the start of the season it was Valencia and Atletico Madrid who were tipped to become Spain’s ‘third force’ this term, while Villarreal were dismissed somewhat after a scrappy opening day defeat against newly promoted Real Sociedad had the vultures circling over El Madrigal. Such predictions have proven wholly premature as the Yellow Submarine have emerged from this gloom to record seven wins in their last nine fixtures.

Typically strong at home, Juan Carlos Garrido’s side have picked up 15 points from 15 in front of their supporters. But the most impressive aspect of their play has been their form on the road, though they have not been seriously tested on their travels before this weekend.

The next month is likely to be defining for Garrido’s men. They’ve overcome many of the Spanish top flight’s middleweights in the early part of the campaign but in the lead up to Christmas they have Valencia and Sevilla to face after their trip to Barcelona on Saturday night.

Should the Yellow Submarine earn three points, there can be little doubt that they should be seriously regarded as potential challengers for the Liga crown, but it seems that they don’t quite have the power yet to achieve such a result away from home.

TEAM NEWS

Barcelona

Gabriel Milito faces between four and six weeks on the sidelines due to a thigh injury. Meanwhile, Gerard Pique’s suspension after his red card against Getafe last weekend means that youngster Marc Bartra has been tipped for a role in the starting XI come the weekend.

Adriano has been suffering from gastroenteritis and should be classed as doubtful, and Jeffren is back training with the main body of players after suffering back problems.

Villarreal

Marcos Senna is experiencing hamstring problems and the veteran midfielder is doubtful to feature at Camp Nou. Bruno Soriano will feature if the veteran battler does indeed sit out.

Marco Ruben is fit again, and Gonzalo Rodriguez purged a one-match suspension last weekend.

Prediction
Had this fixture been played at El Madrigal, where Villarreal have been almost flawless under Juan Carlos Garrido, they would have had a better shot at victory. Barcelona have not been infallible at home but have the ability and mentality to raise their game for the biggest matches. Come full-time, Barca should be celebrating being top of the table, even if it is only a brief tenure at the summit.

Barcelona 3-1 Villarreal

13-11-2010 20:45 Juventus - Roma

Regaining Momentum

Back-to-back wins against Milan and Cesena have refurbished Juventus’ Scudetto aspirations, especially with the rest of the title contenders dropping points. But Luigi Del Neri’s side themselves were guilty of throwing away priceless points when they drew 1-1 with Brescia on the road on Wednesday evening.

However, the draw means that the former Italian champions are now unbeaten in Serie A since September 23, having gone seven league fixtures without defeat. The good run of results has propelled the Bianconeri to fifth in the league standings on 19 points from 11 matches, just a point behind Inter and four behind leaders Milan.

Winning against Roma even in Turin, however, is going to be tough as the Lupi themselves have recovered form. Furthermore, Juventus have lost at home in Serie A this term and although they have scored 15 goals at the Olimpico Grande Torino, they have also shipped in nine – a sign that Roma will be interested to explore.

Battling With Roman Spirit

Roma are fighting like Gladiators in the league at the moment as their hard-fought and narrow 3-2 victory over Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpicio on Wednesday evening attested. It was Claudio Ranieri’s side’s fourth win in a row in all competitions and their fourth in five matches in Serie A.

The maximum points gained in Florence propelled the Lupi to sixth in the standings on 18 points from 11 matches, five points behind leaders Milan and just one behind Juventus. Besides keeping Roma’s slim Scudetto hopes alive, the win also helped them to sustain momentum and maintain their good run of results in recent times.

However, Roma have to improve much if they aim to win in Turin. The Giallorossi have won just one of their five league games away from home, scoring just four goals and conceding a whooping nine in the process. Captain and talisman Francesco Totti has rallied his team-mates to give their all on Saturday evening, defining the clash as “a fundamental game” for the season.

TEAM NEWS

Juventus

Buffon, Krasic, Legrottaglie, Rinaudo, Grygera, De Ceglie, Martinez and Manninger are out injured for the Bianconeri, who will deploy a flat 4-4-2 formation that will see Iaquinta alongside Quagliarella in attack.

Roma

Juan, Okaka, Taddei and Pizarro are unavailable because of injuries for Claudio Ranieri’s side, who will start in a 4-3-1-2 system with Totti and Vucinic as the frontmen and Menez playing just behind them.

Prediction
This will be a very competitive game and is very difficult to call indeed. Playing at home does give Juve an advantage but Roma appear to have resurrected themselves and will have three points on their mind. A single goal could just be enough to settle the affairs and the visitors could well be the team to find that golden goal.

Juventus 0-1 Roma
