PROBABLE LINE-UPS
Inter (4-3-1-2): Julio Cesar; Jonathan, Ranocchia, Lucio, Nagatomo; Zanetti, Cambiasso, Obi; Sneijder; Pazzini, Forlan.

Gian Piero Gasperini will be without a plethora of players for the clash against Roma. Emiliano Viviano, Maicon and Ivan Cordoba are all nursing knee injuries while Andrea Poli, Cristian Chivu and Thiago Motta will miss out due to various bumps and bruises.

Roma (4-3-3): Stekelenburg; Rosi, Burdisso, Heinze, Cassetti; Perrotta, De Rossi, Pjanic; Borriello, Totti, Borini

Brazilian defenders Juan and Cicinho will miss the clash at San Siro through injury while Juan Angel is suspended for receiving his marching orders in the loss to Cagliari last weekend. Summer signing Erik Lamela is recovering from an ankle injury but could make the bench on Saturday.

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Inter have won 13 straight Serie A matches at San Siro.
  • The Nerazzurri have not lost their first two league encounters since 1983.
  • Gasperini's men have conceded five goals in the last two games in all competitions.
  • Inter beat Roma 5-3 at the Giuseppe Meazza last season.
  • Roma have lost two out of their last three Serie A openers following the 2-1 setback to Cagliari last weekend.
  • The capital city side were awarded the most penalties in the league last season (13).
  • Roma kept 14 clean sheets last term.
  • The Giallorossi collected 10 points from their last five road games to end the 2010-11 campaign.
Prediction
This is a pivotal encounter for both teams as they are coming off shock defeats in the last seven days. Roma usually play Inter tough and will leave the hosts reeling with a slender victory at San Siro on Saturday evening.

Argentina Apertura Preview

Game of the Week:
Lanus vs. Boca Juniors

In a league somewhat prone to over-hyping matches a handful of games into the season, this top of the table clash on Sunday nevertheless looks unmissable. Lanus and Boca occupy the summit of the Apertura, and a win this weekend for either would leave them in a strong position for the rest of the campaign.

No-one has managed to beat the Grana this season, and fired by one of the best midfields in the league they took apart Argentinos Juniors last week in a 4-0 thrashing. Mauro Camoranesi, Diego Valeri and Guido Pizarro are all in excellent form, while at the back just one goal has slipped Agustin Marchesin in the first six outings.

Boca are also yet to taste the bitter flavour of defeat this term, and have the luxury of picking an unchanged team after Juan Roman Riquelme proved his fitness. He and Walter Erviti have shown glimpses of a scintillating creative partnership; and if strikers Dario Cvitanich and Lucas Viatri can step up a gear in the penalty area, goals promise to flow for the Argentine powerhouses.

Prediction: It promises to be a gripping clash in Lanus, with both sides possessing more than enough to take all three points. If Boca hit form, however, they should just shade it, which is why a 2-1 Boca victory is a decent bet.

Friday's Action
New Independiente coach Ramon Diaz, complete with son and new assistant Emiliano, debuts in the Doble Visera with a tricky looking home tie with Colon in the first game of round seven. The Rojo have looked desperately short of form so far, but they will hope that the legendary trainer can inspire them past the Santafesinos and back to the top half of the table.

Godoy Cruz then gear up for a marathon trip down to Bahia Blanca to face Olimpo, but after a 6-1 demolition of All Boys at the weekend confidence will be high. And San Martin de San Juan will try for their second victory of the Apertura when they host a Belgrano team coming off the back of two wins against Argentina's grandes.

Saturday's Action
An accomplished display from dimunitive playmaker Diego Morales, below, helped Tigre to a surprise victory over Estudiantes last week, but adrift in the relegation mire the Matador need to keep picking up points. They will hoping for three more on Saturday, when Arsenal de Sarandi come to Victoria.

All Boys will be keen to memories of their six-goal mauling in Mendoza behind them; and who better to do it against than Banfield, who lie bottom of the pile with an impressively disastrous six defeats out of six matches. San Lorenzo will then try to climb out of the promocion with a victory over high-flying Rafaela, who could go top for at least a day if they can do the business in Bajo Flores.

Sunday's Action
Apertura champions Velez Sarsfield have lost three games in a row as they adjust to the loss of their stars to Italy, and will be desperate to return to winning ways. It won't be easy in Rosario, however, when they visit a Newell's Old Boys side that have proved draw experts in the early stages.

Two under-pressure coaches then meet in La Plata, with Miguel Angel Russo and Pedro Troglio both needing results to avoid the sack. Russo's Estudiantes host Argentinos Juniors in the Estadio Unico, with the two 2010 Primera champions languishing in 19th and 18th place respectively. The night is rounded off by Racing Club's visit to Santa Fe and Union; and Diego Simeone's team will know that if results go their way, a win could claim them the Apertura summit in the weekend's final fixture.

17.09. (Sat) 20:00 Barcelona - Osasuna

Getty Images

PROBABLE LINE-UPS
Barcelona: (4-1-2-3): Valdes; Alves, Mascherano, Puyol, Abidal; Busquets, Fabregas, Xavi; Pedro, Messi, Villa

Just as one influential Spaniard returns for Barcelona, another is out with injury. Carles Puyol should make his long awaited La Liga comeback for the champions after recovering from a knee injury and is expected to start in the centre of defence. However, midfield maestro Andres Iniesta is sidelined for a month with a torn hamstring while Alexis Sanchez is out for six to eight weeks with a similar injury.

Osasuna: (4-3-3): Fernandez; Raitala, Roversio, Flano, Bertran; Lama, Punal, Raul Garcia; Cejudo, Sola, Nino

Osasuna are without five squad members for the trip to Camp Nou. Ion Echaide will miss most of the season with a ruptured knee, Masoud Shojaei is still recovering with a fractured left foot, Asier Riesgo is back training with the group after recovering from a sprained knee but still may not be match fit. The visitors are also missing influential midfielder Javad Nekounam with a strained knee as well as first team starter Sergio, who suffered a hamstring injury in Osasuna's previous match against Sporting Gijon. Raul Garcia may be given the nod in midfield ahead of Toribio.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • In Barcelona's only two defeats in La Liga last season, captain Carles Puyol was not involved in either match.
  • In this fixture last season, Lionel Messi scored his 50th competitive goal of the 2010-11 campaign.
  • David Villa has not scored a goal in La Liga since this very match last season on April 23rd.
  • Barca scored exactly 50 more goals in La Liga last season than Osasuna.
  • The last league goal that Osasuna managed to score against Barcelona came on October 31st 2009, in the form of an injury time own goal from Gerard Pique to give the hosts an unlikely draw.
  • Osasuna's top goalscorer in the league last season was Kike Sola with seven goals. Barcelona had four players who scored more last campaign.
  • Osasuna's biggest win of the campaign last year was 4-0 and came against Barcelona's city rivals, Espanyol.
  • The away side were quick out of the blocks after half time in La Liga last season, having scored the majority of their goals between the 46th minute and the 60th minute.
Prediction
Barcelona are coming off two disappointing draws and they will want to quickly get their season back on track with a win against Osasuna. The visitors are a decent side with players who can certainly cause Pep Guardiola's men trouble but Barca will be even more eager to get a good result and performance after a below-par week. Expect the Catalans to overcome and outclass Osasuna with a professional performance.
Editor's Prediction
Barcelona 3-0 Osasuna
