Serie A Opta Facts - 7-8 January


Atalanta v AC Milan

Atalanta have picked up just one point from their last four meetings against AC Milan in Serie A, as result of the 1-1 draw in their last game in Bergamo in October 2009.
That was the only draw in the last 10 Serie A meetings between these two sides.
AC Milan have managed just one win in their last four visits to Atalanta, 1-0 in October 2008.
Atalanta have conceded nine goals in a Serie A game just twice, one of those was against AC Milan (9-3 at the San Siro in October 1972).
Atalanta have already shared 37 draws against the Rossoneri, more than against any other Serie A side.
In their last game against Cesena, Atalanta won their first game following a run of five consecutive draws in the league.
Atalanta are still unbeaten at home in this campaign (four wins and as many draws).
AC Milan are unbeaten in their last 11 games (nine wins, two draws).
The Rossoneri boast the best attack of this competition (35 goals).
Their defence have also kept six clean sheets in the last seven match-days, conceding two in Bologna in the other one.
Massimiliano Allegri's side have kept clean sheets in 21 fixtures in 2011, more than any other side in Serie A.
Only German Denis (12) has scored more than Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11) so far in this campaign.
Atalanta would have 26 points without the 6 points penalty: that would be their best start to a Serie A campaign after 16 match-days.

Bologna v Catania

Catania have won just one of their last 10 Serie A games against Bologna (1-0 at the Massimino in January 2010); five wins for the Felsinei and four draws complete the record.
In these last 10 meetings against Bologna, the Sicilians have never scored more than a single goal.
At home, Bologna have won nine out of 11 meetings with Catania, with the guests getting the better just once (2-1 in October 1960).
Since then, Catania have scored just three goals in nine visits to Bologna in Serie A.
Bologna have always scored when have they hosted Catania in the top-flight.
Bologna have won just one of their last seven Serie A games, and have lost their last two against Genoa and Roma.
At home, Bologna have lost five of their eight games this season, winning two.
Catania are unbeaten in the last three match-days (two draws and the win in the derby against Palermo); the Sicilians are also unbeaten in their last three games on the road.
Catania have recouped 10 points from trailing situations, only Lazio (13) have a better record after falling behind.

Cagliari v Genoa

These two sides have never shared the points in their last eight meetings in Serie A: Genoa lead by five wins to three.
Cagliari and Genoa have alternated between one win each in the last four meetings in Sardinia; the last game at the Sant'Elia was won by the guests 1-0 in November 2010.
Since the appointment of new manager Davide Ballardini, Cagliari have won just one game (1-0 in Catania), losing three and sharing the points twice.
Cagliari have failed to score in their last three games; the Sardinians have netted just four in the last 11 match-days of this campaign.
After beating Novara in their first game at home, Cagliari have remained winless at the Sant'Elia (five draws, four of which 0-0, and two losses).
In fact, after beating 2-1 Novara, Cagliari have managed to score just one goal at home (1-1 vs Bologna).
Genoa alternated between a win and a loss over their last five Serie A games before the Christmas break, a run that started with defeat at home to AC Milan and ended with their 6-1 defeat in Naples.
This defeat costed Alberto Malesani his job, and he was replaced by new manager, Pasquale Marino.
Cagliari are the only Serie A side yet to score from a corner this season.

Inter v Parma

Last April's 2-0 win ended for Parma a run of six defeats and a draw against Inter in Serie A.
In that game, Inter failed to score against Parma for the first time after seven meetings in which they had netted.
These two sides have drawn just once in their last 10 meetings (1-1 in February 2010).
Parma have won just once in 20 games at Inter's ground (3-1 in May 1999).
Parma have managed just one clean sheet at Inter's ground (0-0 in April 1992).
Inter have won the last five games at home against Parma, scoring on each occasion at least two goals.
Hernan Crespo has collected 92 appearances and 43 goals for Parma, and 68 appearances and 27 goals for Inter in Serie A.
In a game against Inter at the San Siro, Crespo made his Serie A debut and scored his first goal in October 1996.
Inter have won four games in a row; should they beat Parma, it would be the first time they have won five consecutive league games since the departure of José Mourinho (last time was between April and May 2010).
Parma have already conceded 22 goals after the break (10 of which in the last 15 minutes of play) more than any other side.
Claudio Ranieri will face his former team, Parma (he was manager there in 2007) for the 16th time: six wins, five draws and five defeats for him so far against the Ducali in Serie A.

Lecce v Juventus

Last February's 2-0 win ended for Lecce a run of six consecutive defeats against Juventus in Serie A.
That was the first time after 10 games that Juventus had failed to score against Lecce in the league.
Lecce are still winless at home this season, and have picked up just one point at their ground so far (1-1 vs Novara).
Lecce have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 games at home, since beating Udinese 2-0 back in April.
Following their 0-0 draw at Udinese, Juventus remain the only unbeaten side amongst the top-5 European leagues this season.
Away from home, the Old Lady have drawn their last three games: overall this season they have managed three wins and five draws on the road.
Lecce have lost the most points from winning situations this season (13); in their last game before the Christmas break they had taken the lead at the San Siro against Inter, before losing 4-1.
Juventus, on the other hand, have a record of nine wins and two draws from leading situations.
Antonio Conte will face for the first time as a manager his native city's Club: Conte started his professional career as a football player at Lecce, where he played between 1985 and 1992.

Novara v Fiorentina

These two sides have met 22 times in Serie A so far: Fiorentina lead by 10 wins to seven, with five draws.
The last two meetings were back in the 1955/56 campaign: the Viola won 4-2 in Florence, while in Novara it ended 1-1.
Fiorentina have not improved their performance since new manager Delio Rossi has replaced Sinisa Mihajlovic: the Viola have won just once, drawing three times and losing twice since changing manager.
The goalless draw in the Tuscan derby against Siena ended a run of four consecutive away defeats for the Viola in this competition, however Fiorentina have not scored in their last four games on the road.
The goal scored by Jovetic in Turin against Juventus is the only goal netted by Fiorentina away from home in this campaign.
Novara have recouped eight points from trailing situations: only Lazio and Catania have done better after falling behind in their games.
In fact, Novara are the side with the most goals scored in the final 15 minutes of play (10).
In their last game before the Christmas break, Novara came back from 0-2 down to draw against Palermo.

Palermo v Napoli

Since their return to the top-flight, these two sides have met eight times: Palermo lead by four wins to three, with one draw.
The Sicilians got the better in the last meeting, back in April: Palermo won 2-1, after Napoli had taken the lead courtesy of a Cavani penalty.
Edinson Cavani has already scored 35 goals in 49 league appearances for Napoli; he had netted just 34 in 109 games for Palermo.
Palermo have won their last five games at home against Napoli, the last four with the same score-line (2-1).
Napoli have won just one of their last 13 games at Palermo's ground, and overall they have managed to beat Palermo at the Barbera just three times in 18 meetings in the top-flight.
After winning six games in a row at home this season, Palermo lost their first at the Barbera 0-1 against Cesena.
Napoli are winless in their last four league games on the road (three draws and a defeat).
Against Genoa, Walter Mazzarri won his 101st game as a manager in Serie A; however, Bortolo Mutti leads in the head to head against Mazzarri by two wins to one, with one draw.

Roma v Chievo

Chievo have managed just one win in 18 meetings against Roma in Serie A (1-0 at the Olimpico in January 2003).
Chievo have failed to score in five of their last six meetings against Roma.
Against Roma, Chievo suffered their worst defeat in Serie A: 5-0 at the Olimpico in April 2002.
Chievo have shared eight draws against Roma, more than against any other Serie A side so far.
Chievo have scored just one goal in their last six visits to Roma at the Olimpico.
Roma beat Napoli and Bologna in their last two games before the Christmas break; they have never won three in a row under Luis Enrique.
Chievo have not conceded goals in three of their last four Serie A games, including the last one at the Olimpico against Lazio.
In their last nine visits to the Olimpico against the two sides from the Capital, Chievo have never conceded more than a single goal.
Chievo have lost just one of their last 12 games played at the Olimpico against Roma or Lazio in Serie A.
Francesco Totti is yet to score his first goal in this campaign, and is the player with the most shots attempted (23) amongst those without goals scored.
Totti has already scored six goals against Chievo in Serie A in 10 meetings.

Siena v Lazio

This will be the 15th meeting between these two sides in Serie A: Lazio lead by five wins to four, with five draws.
The last time they met in Siena, these two sides shared a 1-1 draw in November 2009.
Lazio have won just once at Siena's ground (3-2 in April 2006); four wins for the hosts and two draws.
Siena have always scored at home against Lazio in Serie A.
Following a 0-0 draw in the Tuscan derby against Fiorentina in their last game before the break, Siena remain winless in their last seven games (five defeats and two draws).
Siena have not scored in the last 453 minutes of league football since Gazzi scored against Atalanta on November 20.
Lazio are unbeaten in their last four games, but have been held to a draw in the last two against Udinese and Chievo.
Away from home, Edy Reja's side remain unbeaten this season (five wins and two draws); only Juventus are yet to lose their first away game alongside the Biancocelesti.
Miroslav Klose has been involved in 46% of Lazio's 24 total goals, scoring eight and making three assists.
Klose (36) has attempted more than 25% of Siena's total shots in this campaign: in fact, Siena have attempted the fewest shots in this competition so far this term (131).


Udinese v Cesena

Four wins for Udinese, three for Cesena and a draw is the record in Serie A between these two sides.
Udinese have had the better in their last three meetings against Cesena, not conceding a single goal in the process.
In Udine, the hosts lead by three wins to one, and have won 1-0 in the last two.
The 0-0 draw against Juventus extended Udinese's unbeaten run to five games (three wins, followed by the draws against Lazio and Juve).
Against Juve though, Udinese failed to win their first game at home following a run of seven wins in a row.
Against Juve, Antonio Di Natale failed to score for the first time at home in this campaign.
Udinese boast the best defence of this competition (only nine goals conceded); only two of these goals were conceded at home.
Samir Handanovic has managed 10 clean sheets this season, more than any other ‘keeper in Serie A.
Cesena have not shared the points in their last eight games, and have lost their last two against Atalanta and Inter.
