  • Bayern, winners most recently in 2001 look to join Liverpool with five European Cup wins and so become the joint-third most successful club in the competition's history, behind Real Madrid and AC Milan.
  • Inter are hoping to secure their first European crown since they secured to back-to-back triumphs in 1964 and 1965.
  • With four defeats en route to Madrid, Bayern Munich have lost more games than any finalist since AC Milan in 2002/03.

  • Ivica Olic is the leading goal-scorer amongst players taking part in the final, with seven goals (including the hat-trick netted in the semi-final against Lyon).
  • This will be the first ever meeting between the two managers, José Mourinho (winner in 2003/04 with Porto) and Louis van Gaal (winner in 1994-95 with Ajax).
  • The manager who wins this match will become the third to win the Champions League/European Cup with two different sides, after Ernst Happel (with Feyenoord in 1969/70 and Hamburg in 1982/83) and Ottmar Hitzfeld (with Borussia Dortmund in 1996/97 and Bayern Munich in 2000/01).
