Real Betis defender Mario will miss the 115th 'derbi' with Sevilla due to suspension, after being sent off in Sunday's defeat at Barcelona.

With Antonio Amaya also sidelined through injury, Ustaritz is expected to partner Chechu Dorado in defence.

Meanwhile, young playmaker Alejandro Pozuelo has recovered from injury and could start for the Verdiblancos.

Sevilla coach Marcelino Garcia Toral will be without Frederic Kanoute, who serves a one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards. Argentine midfielder Diego Perotti sits out with a hamstring injury.

Manu del Moral (hamstring) and Martin Caceres (flu) are both doubtful to feature, but the former will find a spot in the starting XI if he is passed fit.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Real Betis, who are 11th in the league standings, go into Saturday's clash just four places and three points behind their bitter rivals.
  • The Verdiblancos are on a three-game winning streak at the Benito Villamarin.
  • The Andalusian club's 4-2 defeat at Barcelona last Sunday made them the first away side to score at Camp Nou this season.
  • Sevilla ended a three-game losing streak in the league with a goalless draw at home to Espanyol on Saturday.
  • The Rojiblancos have won just once on the road this season (W1 D5 L2).
  • Frederic Kanoute (pictured) is Sevilla's top scorer this season with six goals.

Prediction
Real Betis have undergone a mini-revival in recent weeks, best epitomised by their spirited display at Camp Nou on Sunday, where they gave the champions a real run for their money. Although the form book goes out of the window in a derby, the force is clearly with Betis, and they have the valuable advantage of playing in front of their own fans in what is likely to be a tempestuous affair.

Betis 2-1 Sevilla

This game will serve as the opening encounter for both sides in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, with Group A consisting of Senegal, Zambia, Libya and co-hosts Equatorial Guinea. Senegal go into this competition as one of the three main favourites alongside Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire, and expectations back in Dakar are very high.

An impressive qualification campaign where they topped the group ahead of Cameroon and DR Congo whet the appetites of African fans, and Senegal will no doubt be the neutral observer's favourite to cause a stir in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Their attacking options are bewildering, with a top class array of talents in the form of Demba Ba, Mamadou Niang, Moussa Sow and Papiss Demba Cisse sure to trouble opposition defence, Zambia will need to be in form to keep the Teranga Lions from scoring.

Zambia coach Herve Renard has said that it is crucial his team defeats Senegal in their opening game of the 2012 Afcon in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, as he believes that a win would propel the Chipolopolo into the knockout rounds. Even though Renard’s team defeated the west Africans in their two meetings during the inaugural Championship of African Nations (Chan) in 2009, he knows they are among the favourites to win the trophy.

The Zambians have additional motivation to reach the final of the Afcon in Libreville, as they want to do well in memory of the Chipolopolo squad that was killed in a 1993 plane crash. For it was in Libreville, the Gabonese capital, where the Zambian team’s Air Force plane last refuelled before it crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on the way to Senegal for a World Cup qualifying match. The Zambians will certainly be thinking about that as they open their Afcon account on Saturday.

Stopilla Sunzu suffered a slight pulled muscle during a training match last week, but could still be fit enough to play a part in this match for Zambia, while Hichani Himoonde is likely to take his place at the back. The Teranga Lions have a full squad available for this clash, and will be hoping to keep their stars fit and available throughout their tournament run.
DID YOU KNOW?

  • Zambia re-signed coach Herve Renard soon after former trainer Dario Bonetti was sacked despite securing qualification for this competition. Renard took them to the quarter-finals of the 2010 Afcon.
  • Zambia are nicknamed the Chipolopolo, meaning the Copper Bullets, while Senegal are known as the Teranga Lions.
  • Zambia came second in the 1994 Afcon, losing to Nigeria in the final. That is the closest they have come to winning the continental title.
  • Senegal coach Amara Traore worked without a salary for 11 months in 2010 because the FA and the sports and finance ministries were in disagreement over the status of the national team staff.
  • It has been a modern tradition for Senegal presidents to offer their private planes to airlift the national team players each time they have an important match, as was the case when they played against Cameroon in Yaounde and DR Congo in Kinshasa during the 2012 Afcon qualifiers.
  • Of the three major favourites for the tournament, Senegal are the only country not to have won the Afcon title.
Prediction
Zambia is certainly an impressive team, but as one of the favourites to win the tournament, Senegal seem to be very strong and will likely begin their campaign with a victory.
Editor's Prediction
Senegal 2-1 Zambia

Atalanta boss Stefano Colantuono does not have any injuries worries ahead of the crunch clash but Stefano Lucchini and Carlos Carmona are both suspended and will miss Saturday's festivities.
Juve coach Antonio Conte will likely be without the services of Eljero Elia who sustained an ankle injury in training earlier in the week, while Fabio Quagliarella is still struggling with a cheekbone problem.
DID YOU KNOW?

  • Atalanta and Juventus have both played out eight draws this term, which is the most in the league.
  • The Nerazzurri have only one win in their last eight games (W1 D5 L2).
  • The Bergamo-based outfit have been outscored 4-0 in their last two contests.
  • Juventus have only picked up one win their last four away matches (W1 D3).
  • The Turin outfit have scored in all but two of their 18 Serie A encounters this season.
  • The Bianconeri have conceded just two goals in their last five games, keeping three clean sheets during that span.
Prediction
Atalanta have only lost once at home this season and will do just enough to pull off the upset and surprisingly end Juve’s 18-game unbeaten run on Saturday.

On-loan midfielder McDonald Mariga is reportedly in talks with Serie A side Parma, and is unlikely to be included in the matchday squad to face Atletico Madrid.

The Kenyan, who arrived on loan from Inter in August last year, has endured a frustrating spell in San Sebastian and has been unable to cement a regular berth in the side.

Also unlikely to feature is Uruguay striker Diego Ifran, who looks set to leave the Basque club after voicing his unhappiness at the lack of playing time.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone welcomes back defenders Luis Perea and Alvaro Dominguez from suspension, although Tiago is unavailable after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in Sunday's win over Villarreal.

The Argentine coach is expected to revert to a 4-5-1 formation, with Arda Turan and Adrian supporting lone striker Radamel Falcao from the flanks. Mario Suarez is expected to replace the suspended Tiago in midfield.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Real Sociedad are on a seven-game unbeaten run in the league (W3 D4).
  • Imanol Agirretxe (pictured) leads the Basque club's goalscoring charts this season with seven goals.
  • Real Sociedad are known by the Basque nickname txuri-urdin (white-blue), due to the colours of their kit.
  • Atletico Madrid are winless away from home in the league this season (D2 L6).
  • But with three wins out of the last five encounters, Atletico have the edge in recent head-to-head meetings with Real Sociedad.
  • The capital club's record signing, Radamel Falcao, was voted the fifth best player in European football in the 2010-11 season by Uefa.
Prediction
The gameplan for both teams is likely to be quite similar: plenty of tight defending with quick counterattacks through the wings. Under Simeone, Atletico have already shown once that they can make themselves hard to beat away from home. This has a draw written all over it.

Though they will surely have incredible home support to rely on, Equatorial Guinea are facing a tough challenge in the opening match of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. The lead-up to the tournament has been a difficult one for the Nzalang Nacional, who saw their previous coach, Henri Michel, quit just over a month ago, citing a lack of support from the country’s football federation and the government meddling in sporting affairs.
Michel’s departure left his Brazilian replacement, Gilson Paulo, having to pick his final squad for the competition just under a week after his first training session. Clearly, the situation is far from ideal. Nevertheless, the players – some of whom were only recently nationalised – won’t just be fighting for national pride as they’ve been promised a one million dollar cash prize to split between them should they defeat their Libyan visitors.
In comparison, the newly nicknamed 'Knights of the Mediterranean' have had a relatively straightforward preparatory period, even though their qualification was anything but that. The main issue for Marcos Paqueta is that Oussama Fazzani’s unexplained withdrawal leaves only two true strikers in the squad, Iheb Boussifi and Ahmed Zuway. That may not be a problem in the first encounter, but could develop into one as the tournament goes forward depending on injuries and suspensions.
Given the extreme challenges they had to surmount during the Libyan revolution in order to make it to their first Afcon since the 2006, the north Africans aren’t likely to be intimidated by the hostile environment at the Bata Stadium.
DID YOU KNOW?

  • Libya fell to a narrow 1-0 loss against title favourites Cote d’Ivoire in a pre-tournament friendly recently.
  • Equatorial Guinea were held to a 1-1 draw against Cameroonian champions Cotonsport on January 13.
  • Some of the Libyan players in the team such as Walid El Khatroushi fought with the revolutionaries who ousted Muammar Gaddafi from power.
  • Included in the Nzalang Nacional side are naturalised players from Brazil (Danilo Emanuel), Liberia (Lawrence Doe), and Cameroon (Thierry Fidjeu and Narcisse Ekanga).
  • This will be the first official match played between the two nations.
Prediction
Given their tumultuous preparations and the lack of cohesion, it is hard to imagine that Equatorial Guinea can emerge with anything better than a draw in this encounter.

Equatorial Guinea 1-1 Libya

Following last week's 0-0 draw with Stoke City at Anfield, Kenny Dalglish is likely to alter his striking options again as the club continue to contend with Luis Suarez'S suspension. Expect Dirk Kuyt to retain his place in the side, with Andy Carroll and Craig Bellamy returning to the starting XI.

Liverpool also have to deal with injuries to Daniel Agger, who picked up a knock against Stoke, and Jay Spearing, who could be set for a spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring problem.

Despite Owen Coyle's comments in mid-week insisting Kevin Davies still has a vital role to play at the Reebok, expect the forward to miss out once again, with the former Burnley boss opting to start David Ngog once again in the lone striker's role.

Bolton are still without goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen (hip/thigh), although replacement Adam Bogdan looked increasingly competent at Old Trafford against Manchester United last week, despite the 3-0 defeat.

Long term injury cases such as Marcos Alonso (ankle), Ricardo Gardener (hip/thigh), Tyrone Mears (broken leg), Chung-Yong Lee (broken leg), Stuart Holden (knee) and Sean Davis (knee) also remain unavailable for the clash.
DID YOU KNOW?
  • Liverpool have won all of their 10 Premier League games against Saturday's opposition.
  • The home side have only picked up four points from their 10 games at the Reebok Stadium this season.
  • Liverpool have only recorded one victory on the road in the Premier League in their last four away games.
  • Kenny Dalglish's men have also only managed to score twice in their last four away games in the league.
  • Bolton have only kept a single clean sheet at home this season, coming in November's 5-0 win over Stoke, yet Liverpool have kept six whilst on their travels.
  • Stewart Downing (pictured) has had 47 attempts without a single goal this season, the worst return in the Premier League.
  • This is reflected in his sides own average, with only 8% of chances converted, lower than any other side in the Premier League.
  • Bolton have hit the target with a higher percentage of their shots than any other side in the division with 55%.
Prediction
I cannot see Bolton playing a massive part in this game, and other than through an inspired performance from Ngog, I doubt there will be any chance of a goal against a normally solid Liverpool side.
While Coyle's men will make it hard for the visitors, when Liverpool break the deadlock I think there will be at least another couple of goals to follow to bump up the scoreline.
Editor's Prediction
Bolton 0-3 Liverpool

Italian Serie A Opta Facts - 21-22 Jan

Atalanta v Juventus

Should Juventus win this game, or even if they don't and AC Milan fail to win their fixture, the Old Lady would top the Serie A table at the half-way stage of the season for the 25th time in their history.

In these last six games, Inter have conceded just one goal, against Lecce.
The 4-0 defeat suffered against Siena in their last game on the road ended Lazio's unbeaten run away from home, after five wins and two draws.

Roma coach Luis Enrique will have to make do without the services of quartet Pablo Osvaldo, Marco Cassetti, Nicolas Burdisso and Daniele De Rossi, with the latter requiring a late fitness test.

A total of four changes should be pursued by the Spaniard from the side that played out a 1-1 draw with Catania last week, with Cicinho, Gabriel Heinze, Jose Angel and Fernando Gago expected to come into the fold in favour of Aleandro Rosi, Juan, Rodrigo Taddei and De Rossi.

Meanwhile for the visitors Cesena, Daniele Arrigoni is being tipped to make only slight alterations from the morale-boosting 3-1 win over Novara to end a run of four straight defeats.

New signing Vangelis Moras, Giuseppe Colucci and Maurizio Lauro are set to replace trio Marco Rossi, Antonio Candreva and Luca Ceccarelli, but there is no such luck for Damjan Djokovic and Dominique Malonga, both whom are not expected back for at least a further week.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Roma are currently enjoying their best run of the season, winning four of their past five matches.
  • Prior to Catania last weekend, they had kept clean sheets in three consecutive matches.
  • Daniele Arrigoni managed to inspire Cesena to a win against Novara which ended a run of four consecutive losses.

Bundesliga Opta Facts - 21-22 December

FC Schalke 04 - VfB Stuttgart

In the Bundesliga, only Bayern Munich (40 times) have beaten Schalke more often than Stuttgart (39).
Schalke have won 26 Bundesliga home games against VfB, but no more than 22 against any other team.
Schalke have won ten and drawn two of their last 13 home games against Stuttgart in the league, with Stuttgart's sole victory a 2-1 win in May 2009.
VfB have won the last three opening Bundesliga matches at the start of the year, but suffered a 4-1 defeat at Schalke in their first Bundesliga game of 2008.
Schalke have won each of their last four home games, their best home run since (November/December 2010 - four home wins in a row).
Stuttgart have lost each of their last three away games. VfB have also failed to score in their last 220 minutes on the road.
VfB haven't won any of their last four league games (one draw, three defeats). This is their worst run since Bruno Labbadia took over.
If Raul scores, it will be the 400th competitive goal of his career (including goals for the national team).
Schalke's Timo Hildebrand, Ciprian Marica and sporting director Horst Heldt all played for Stuttgart while VfB midfielder Tamas Hajnal made his Bundesliga debut for Huub Stevens' Schalke in November 1999.
Raul (10) and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (15) have scored 25 goals combined this season while the entire Stuttgart team has managed just 23.
As a coach, Bruno Labbadia is still unbeaten in Bundesliga games against Schalke (four wins, two draws).

Arthur Boka could play his 100th Bundesliga game, Georg Niedermeier could play his 50th Bundesliga game and Martin Harnik could make his 50th Bundesliga appearance in a Stuttgart shirt.

1. FC Nürnberg - Hertha BSC

Nürnberg have won each of the last three games against Hertha, and five of the last six. Hertha's sole win in that period was a 1-0 victory in May 2008.
FCN won the first leg 1-0 away thanks to Tomas Pekhart's Bundesliga debut goal (80th minute). Pekhart is Nürnberg's top goalscorer so far with four strikes.
Nürnberg have won just one of their last six home games (three draws, 2 defeats). In the whole season, FCN have managed just two home wins, no other team has less (five other teams with two home wins).

Raffael has been involved in more goals (11, five goals and six assists) than any other Hertha player, but will miss the first three league games of 2011 with a suspension after being sent off. Nürnberg will be without Timothy Chandler (last game of his suspension) and Markus Feulner (one-game suspension for five yellow cards).
Hertha parted ways with head coach Markus Babbel in December and replaced him with Michael Skibbe, who had already managed Bundesliga sides Dortmund, Leverkusen and Frankfurt.
Nürnberg coach Dieter Hecking made his Bundesliga debut as a manager against Skibbe, losing 3-0 at Leverkusen in August 2006 (with Aachen).

Papiss Cisse has been directly involved in 52% of Freiburg's goals this season (nine goals, two assists), but was sold to Newcastle United in the winter break. He was also the only striker not to miss a single minute of Bundesliga action in the first half of the season.
Augsburg's Sebastian Langkamp has won a Bundesliga-high 73% of his duels.

1899 Hoffenheim - Hannover 96

Hoffenheim have scored more Bundesliga goals against Hannover (15) than against any other team, while four wins against 96 are also joint-top for 1899 (also four against Gladbach and Frankfurt).
22 points from the first 17 games is Hoffenheim's worst ever start to a Bundesliga campaign, as is just 19 goals scored.
For the first time since Mirko Slomka took over, Hannover have failed to win any of their last seven league games (five draws, two defeats). Kaiserslautern are the only other Bundesliga team without a win in their last seven games.
1899 have won just one of their last seven games (three draws, three defeats), with the 2-0 victory at Nürnberg also their only clean sheet in that period.

Vedad Ibisevic has scored five of Hoffenheim's last seven goals and his next strike would be his 50th in the Bundesliga. He has scored against Hannover on one occasion before, a brace in a 5-2 away win in October 2008.
Marvin Compper and Isaac Vorsah are suspended after being sent off, whilst Vorsah and Hannover players Karim Haggui and Didier Ya Konan are at the African Cup of Nations.

Freiburg (39 goals conceded) are the only team with a worse defence than Köln (35) and Wolfsburg (34) this term.
Wolfsburg have conceded more fouls than any other team (332), while Köln have picked up the most bookings (40). Both teams have had three players each sent off - only Bremen (4) have surpassed that.

Köln defender Henrique Sereno is suspended after picking up five yellow cards.
Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath has already signed eight new players in the winter break and could still break his Bundesliga record from the 2009/10 season, when he signed nine new players for Schalke in January.
Magath has already fielded 30 different players this season and is set to break the Bundesliga record from the 2000/01 season, when he managed Eintracht Frankfurt (until January 28th 2001).
Magath's last defeat against 1. FC Köln was a 3-0 home defeat with VfB Stuttgart more than 10 years ago (March 2001), since then he has overseen seven wins and six draws against Köln.

Marc Tierney (groin) continues to be absent through injury for the home side. Kyle Naughton showed some difficulty adapting to an unfamiliar left-back role when filling in away at West Brom last weekend but, with Chelsea likely not to field an out-and-out right-winger, he may get another chance in the position.

Wes Hoolahan may be the major tactical casualty for the Canaries, with Paul Lambert usually preferring to field both Bradley Johnson and David Fox in the centre at home and Andrew Surman in good form on the left recently. Also doing well are strikers Steve Morison and Simeon Jackson, who should continue to keep captain Grant Holt on the bench.

Chelsea's £7 million signing from Bolton, Gary Cahill, is in line for his club debut at the centre of defence, while Jose Bosingwa likely to continue at right-back while Brainslav Ivanovic (hamstring) remains out indefinitely.

John Obi Mikel (hamstring) is also unavailable for Andre Villas-Boas and, while Michael Essien made a 20-minute cameo off the bench against Sunderland last weekend in his return after several months on the sidelines, the Ghanaian is unlikely to be rushed into the starting line-up just yet.

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Norwich City have still yet to keep a clean sheet in any compeititon, over five months since their first outing of the season.
  • Chelsea have won five of their 10 away Premier League matches so far in 2011-12.
  • The reverse of this fixture, the third game of the Premier League season, saw the Blues run out 3-1 victors at Stamford Bridge thanks to goals from Bosingwa, Frank Lampard and Juan Mata. Grant Holt notched for the Canaries.
  • 22-year-old Ryan Bertrand, a late substitute for Chelsea in their recent FA Cup victory over Portsmouth, spent two years on loan at Carrow Road between 2007-09, making 60 appearances.
  • Norwich have a superior head-to-head record against the Stamford Bridge side in the league, notching 12 wins to Chelsea's 11, with 10 draws.
  • Andre Villas-Boas' men have seen their names taken by referees much more frequently this term, with 48 league bookings compared to the Canaries' 30.
  • Chelsea are in a better position now than they were at this stage last year - 21 games into 2010/11, the Blues were outside the Champions League place in fifth with 35 points. Going into this match, the visitors have 40 points on the board, sitting fourth.
  • On this weekend last year, Norwich plundered a 2-1 win away at Sheffield United to jump into third place in the Championship. Midfielder Andrew Crofts (pictured) scored both goals that day.
Prediction
Carrow Road has seen more than its fair share of thrilling matches this season and there could be another on the cards. Norwich came close to toppling the Blues at their own castle in August and will feel that they are capable of doing better with their home fans backing them. The strong interplay between the Canaries' forward men against a Chelsea defence with questions to answer could see them cancel out the goals which you have to expect them to concede.
Editor's Prediction
Norwich City 2-2 Chelsea
