18.19. 09. 2010. Italy - Serie A preview

Bari v Cagliari
  • The record of previous meetings between these two sides in Serie A is perfectly even: five wins each and six draws; Bari have scored 21 goals, the Sardinians 20.
  • However, Cagliari won both fixtures last season, 1-0 at the San Nicola and 3-1 in Sardinia.
  • Cagliari's win at Bari last season ended the hosts' unbeaten run at home against the Sardinians, after four wins and three draws.
  • Bari have conceded only three goals on the eight occasions they have hosted Cagliari at home in the top-flight.
  • Giampiero Ventura's side are unbeaten in their last five Serie A games (three wins and two draws between this season and last).
  • At home, Bari have notched-up three consecutive wins in the league, without conceding a single goal.
  • Last Saturday's 5-1 win over Roma ended Cagliari's 15-game win drought in the league.
  • Cagliari's last away win in Serie A was last January (1-0 at Bologna); since then, they have collected only four points from the ensuing 11 fixtures on the road.



Cesena v Lecce
  • This will be the seventh meeting between these two sides in the top-flight: Cesena lead by three wins to two, with one draw.
  • At home, Cesena have a 100% record in their three meetings with Lecce, and have always scored three or more goals in each of these fixtures.
  • Newly promoted Lecce and Cesena ended last season's Serie B campaign top and second in the table respectively, earning direct promotion to top-flight.
  • Cesena won both fixtures last season in Serie B: 3-1 at the Manuzzi, 2-1 away in Puglia.
  • Last Saturday against AC Milan, Cesena managed their first Serie A win since 1991; on that occasion, Cesena beat Lecce (3-1).
  • Lecce have conceded in each of their 15 away games in Serie A, and have shipped four goals in each of the last two.




Chievo v Brescia
  • Chievo and Brescia have met eight times so far in the top-flight: each side has won twice with four draws completing the record.
  • Chievo have had the better on the last two occasions they have hosted Brescia, by the same scoreline (3-1).
  • Chievo currently top the Serie A table after two wins against Catania (2-1) and away to Genoa (3-1).
  • Brescia have lost their last two Serie A away games, without scoring a single goal.
  • Chievo have been the most accurate shooting team so far this season, with 75% of their attempts being on target.



Fiorentina v Lazio
  • Fiorentina and Lazio have met 122 times in Serie A so far: the Viola lead by 42 wins to 41, with 39 draws.
  • In Florence the hosts have won 30 times, with 12 defeats and 19 draws completing the record.
  • Fiorentina have lost only one of their last eight league meetings with Lazio, winning five and sharing the points twice, with both of these draws coming last season (0-0 in Florence and 1-1 in Rome).
  • The Viola are unbeaten in their last four meetings at home with Lazio, and have not conceded a single goal in the process (three 1-0 wins and a goalless draw).
  • Fiorentina are winless in the league since last March (a 4-1 win at home with Udinese); since then, the Viola have lost five times and shared the points four times.
  • Fiorentina have scored only two goals in their last six Serie A games between this season and last.
  • Lazio have not shared the points in their last eight league games (five wins and three draws).




AC Milan v Catania
  • AC Milan are unbeaten in their last 18 Serie A meetings with Catania (nine wins and as many draws); Catania's last win over the Rossoneri was in May 1963 (1-0).
  • At home AC Milan are still unbeaten against Catania in 13 Serie A meetings (nine wins and four draws), and have kept a clean sheet in seven of these games.
  • The Rossoneri are unbeaten in their last 12 home games (eight wins and four draws), and have won the last three without conceding a single goal.
  • The Sicilians have failed to win a game in their last eight away games (four defeats and as many draws).
  • In this fixture the team with the most shots after the first two match-days (AC Milan, 46) will face that with the fewest (Catania, 21).



Palermo v Inter
  • Palermo have managed only four wins in their previous 46 Serie A meetings with Inter; the Nerazzurri have had the better 24 times, 18 draws complete the record.
  • Inter are unbeaten in their last nine league meetings with Palermo, in light of five wins and four draws.
  • Palermo have beaten Inter at the Barbera only once in their last 10 Serie A meetings (in September 2005).
  • Last Sunday's defeat against Brescia ended Palermo's seven-game unbeaten run in the league (four wins and three draws prior to their defeat at the Rigamonti).
  • The Rosanero are unbeaten at home since March 2009 (0-4 in a derby against Catania); since then they have notched-up 26 consecutive unbeaten games (18 wins and eight draws).

  • The Italian champions have kept a clean sheet in their last three Serie A games on the road.



Parma v Genoa
  • This will be the 15th time Parma and Genoa have met in the top-flight: Parma lead by six wins to four, with four draws.
  • Parma have won only once in their last six meetings with Genoa in the top-flight.
  • However, Genoa have managed only one win at Parma's ground in Serie A, this coming in their last visit to the Tardini in April; five wins to the hosts and a draw in the process.
  • Both Parma and Genoa have not shared a draw in their last eight respective fixtures.
  • Genoa have failed to score in six of their last eight league games played away from home.



Roma v Bologna
  • Roma and Bologna have met 126 times in Serie A: Bologna lead by 47 wins to 42, only Juventus, AC Milan and Inter have beaten Roma more often.
  • However, Roma are unbeaten in their last five Serie A meetings with Bologna, and have won the last three.
  • Bologna have managed only one win from their last 16 visits to Roma, with the hosts having the better 10 times and five draws completing the record.
  • Prior to last Saturday's defeat against Cagliari (5-1), Totti & co. last conceded five goals in Serie A in May 1999 (Roma v Inter 4-5).
  • Bologna have won only one of their last 13 league games: six draws and as many defeats complete the record.
  • Away from home, Bologna are winless in their last seven league games (three draws and four defeats).



Sampdoria v Napoli
  • Sampdoria and Napoli have met 102 times in Serie A so far: the Blucerchiati lead by 33 wins to 30, with 39 draws.
  • Napoli have managed only one win from their last 13 visits to Sampdoria at the Marassi - seven wins to the hosts and five draws.
  • Sampdoria are unbeaten in their last 10 Serie A games (seven wins and three draws), and have not lost at home since January 2009 (29 games, 18 wins and 11 draws).
  • Napoli have already dropped four points from leading situations this season - the Partenopei were leading both against Fiorentina and Bari, but they ended up sharing two draws.
  • Walter Mazzarri is unbeaten in his five previous meetings with Di Carlo in Serie A (four wins and a draw).



Udinese v Juventus
  • These two sides have not shared a draw on the last 10 occasions they have met in Serie A - Juventus lead by seven wins to three.
  • Udinese have beaten Juventus on the last two occasions they have hosted the Old Lady; prior to this, Juventus managed a run of 11 unbeaten games at the Friuli.
  • Udinese are on a run of three consecutive defeats in Serie A between this season and last.
  • Juventus have picked up only one point from their last seven games on the road, and failed to score in five of these games.
  • This is Juventus' worst start to a Serie A season since 1962/63 (one point gained from the first two games).
