* Penarol have an enviable record in the famous South American competition. They lie third in the historical table with five championships.
* No team can match the Uruguayans for participation either. The Manya have qualified for 38 Copas, more than any other outfit.
* On the reverse side however they have also lost the most games in history, as well as scoring and conceding the most goals - 477 and 355 respectively.
* Their last triumph came in 1987 against America de Cali, thanks to a goal from current coach Diego Aguirre in a deciding third match.
* Internacional can also boast a club legend as coach, in the shape of Falcao. The midfield genius led the team to the 1980 Copa final, although they were defeated by Nacional.
* The first title in their history came in 2006, narrowly beating Sao Paulo over two legs. One of tonight's starters, Rafael Sobis, was the hero with two goals.
* The second triumph arrived last year, as the Brazilians were too strong for Guadalajara's Chivas and won both legs thanks to an inspired Andres D'Alessandro (right).
* The teams have met just twice in their history, with negative outcomes both times for the Carboneros. Inter thrashed them 6-2 in their first encounter in Porto Alegre, before winning the return 2-1 in Montevideo.

Diego Aguirre must take on the Brazilians without his star striker and top scorer in the competition Juan Manuel Olivera, who is suspended for the clash. Pacey winger Jonathan Urretaviscaya is also ruled out, and the team will rely on the strong if unspectacular duo of Pacheco and Martinuccio to find them goals.

Few surprises from Inter coach Falcao, who prefers Andrezinho to midfield prodigy Oscar in the only real selection dilemma for the Porto Alegre side.
Prediction
A fierce fight can be expected in the Centenario. Peñarol's determination should be enough to earn them a draw, but it may prove to be too little when the return match comes around next week
