Atletico come into this match at full strength, with a lack of match fitness being the only question mark hanging over some of the players.

Brazilian international midfielder Diego could make his first start for the club after impressing off the bench during the 1-0 defeat at Valencia at the weekend, whilst Radamel Falcao will likely be preferred to Adrian up front should Gregorio Manzano decide to start with Diego.

Celtic, on the other hand, are missing several first-team players, but despite having an Old Firm fixture following the trip to Spain, Neil Lennon has confirmed he will play the strongest XI available to him.

South Korean full-back Cha Du-Ri looks set for a month on the sidelines, whilst Gary Hooper, Kevlin Wilson, Beram Kayal and Emilio Izaguirre will all miss the clash at the Vicente Calderon.

Meanwhile, Scott Brown could return to action after sitting out the 4-0 win over Motherwell and Mohamed Bangura should make his first start for the Bhoys following his move from AIK Stockholm.

DID YOU KNOW?

Last season, Europa League holders Atletico failed to get out of the group stages.

The Spaniards have played 85 Europa League (Uefa Cup) matches, winning 44 of them, drawing 15 and losing 26.

Since the 1998-99 season, Spain leads the way with Europa League/Uefa Cup champions with four: Valencia (2004), Sevilla twice (2006, 2007) and Atletico (2010).

Celtic have not won any of the last three meetings between the sides, losing twice (2-0 and 2-1) and drawing once (1-1).

Atletico and Celtic have not met in competitive competition since the 1985-86 Cup-Winners Cup.

Celtic’s best showing in this competition came in the 2002-03 season when they reached they lost to Jose Mourinho’s Porto 3-2 in the final at La Cartuja, Sevilla.

Daniel Majstorovic is currently the most experienced player in the Scots' squad in terms of European appearances. He has 31 to his name, whilst Scott Brown has 30 and Georgios Samaras is on 28.

Diego , on-loan at Atletico from Wolfsburg, and Miranda, a new signing from Sao Paulo, will make their home debuts for the Madrid side if they play on Thursday.

Atletico have won just four of their last 10 Europa League matches at home.

Celtic have won just two of their last 10 Europa League/Uefa Cup games away from home.

Prediction
So far in the league this season the big-spending Spaniards have struggled to convert chances, having had 39 shots over the course of 180 minutes, with just 13 being on target. However, this side will click eventually and there is no reason why that won’t happen against Celtic, a side with a truly dreadful away record in European competition.
Expect Celtic to be under constant pressure and if Atletico’s willingness to shoot continues, the Scots could be looking at a pasting.
