With the exception of the injured Bastian Schweinsteiger and suspended Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, Jupp Heynckes should have a full squad available to face Bremen. Toni Kroos left training on Thursday due to illness but is expected to be fit. The only question marks are tactical. Heynckes experimented with Philipp Lahm in defensive midfield in training on Thursday, and just might use the captain in such a role. As well, it is uncertain as to whether Jerome Boateng or Rafinha will start on the right of defence.

Bremen, meanwhile, have received a boost as Claudio Pizarro and Clemens Fritz have been pronounced fit to play, after missing training earlier this week. Tim Wiese, however, is ruled out as he mourns the death of his father. Mikael Silvestre, Tim Borowski, and Denni Avdic are all unavailable.

DID YOU KNOW

  • Bayern Munich have lost two consecutive Bundesliga matches, and three of their last five.
  • The Bavarians have been defeated 26 times by Werder: more than any other side.
  • FCB have not lost in their last seven meetings with Bremen.
  • Werder Bremen are undefeated in their last five games away to Bayern.
  • Should they avoid defeat on Saturday, the Hanseatic side will be the first team in Bundesliga history to go six games without losing away to the Munich giants.
  • Claudio Pizarro has scored 11 goals in the Bundesliga this season: only Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Mario Gomez exceed his tally.
Prediction
Bayern as of late have not exactly been the force they were at the beginning of the season, but Bremen lost their last away match 5-0 to Gladbach. The Bavarians' home record remains impressive: they have conceded just twice at the Allianz Arena, while Werder have lost more games than they have won or drawn away from the Weserstadion.
