Schalke - Mainz 
- Champions League semi-finalists Schalke are unbeaten in their last five home games against Mainz, who last triumphed in Gelsenkirchen back in May 2006.
- Mainz have not scored against Schalke in almost nine hours of football - their last strike came in that 1-0 win in 2006 courtesy of Benjamin Auer.
- Ralf Rangnick will be taking charge of his 50th Bundesliga game as Schalke coach while boasting the best points-per-game ratio of anyone to hold the post (1.94).
- Mainz have lost just one of their last six Bundesliga games and they are unbeaten in their last three games, keeping a clean sheet in all three.

The Royal Blues are without Mario Gavranovic, Tim Hoogland, Christian Pander, Levan Kenia and Christoph Moritz. Edu could come back into the starting XI having begun on the bench against Manchester United on Wednesday in place of Alexander Baumjohann.

Thomas Tuchel is unable to call upon Heinz Muller, Adam Szalai and Peter Sliskovic. He should continue his rotation policy with Marcel Risse and Christian Fuchs hoping to come in on the flanks, however, Lewis Holtby will be itching for a starting spot against his parent club.
