Opta Facts La Liga 2011-12 Week 4

Athletic Bilbao - Real Betis

Bilbao have won their last three league meetings with Real Betis.

The verdiblancos have taken all three points on just one of their last 11 league visits to San Mames, drawing six.

Ruben Castro, who has scored in 11 of Real Betis' last 12 league matches, will miss this game through injury.

Betis are the only side in La Liga this season who are yet to concede a goal.

It is 10 years since a side kept a clean sheet in each of their opening three games in LigaBBVA (Celta Vigo and Alaves in 2001).

Real Zaragoza won only one of their eight games without Ander Herrera starting in the league last season.

Athletic Bilbao have made the joint-most fouls in LigaBBVA this season (38).

The Basque side are one of only two sides to have dropped points after scoring first at home in LigaBBVA this season (along with Getafe).

Last season the rojiblancos won the most games by a one-goal margin (11), this season Betis and Valencia are the two sides to have won both games by this distance.

Real Betis have hit the woodwork on the most occasions in the league this season (4).

Ayza Gámez awarded the joint-most penalties in LigaBBVA last season (11).

Atlético de Madrid - Racing Santander

Atletico have won none of their last five league meetings with Racing.

The rojiblancos have not lost at home to Racing since they both returned to Primera (1-2 in 02/03).

The racinguistas suffered their biggest-ever defeat in Primera at Atletico (9-1 in 50/51).

Atletico have not gone three league matches without a win since the 22nd matchday last season.

Lautaro Acosta's goal at the Mestalla was the Argentine striker's first in Primera in his 24th game.

After Athletic, Racing have missed the most penalties in LigaBBVA since 2003/04 (19, compared to 23 by the Basque side).

Racing are one of only two sides in Primera to have scored more than once in the opening 15 minutes of matches this season (along with Barça).

Hector Cuper has won eight of his 12 meetings with Atlético as a manager.

Last season, Cuper's Aris Thessalonika became the first Greek side to win a European match in Spain (after 40 defeats and six draws before).

Barcelona - Osasuna

Barcelona and Osasuna have met 66 times in the top flight, with 37 wins for the azulgrana and 14 defeats.

Osasuna have won on only four of their 33 trips to the Camp Nou in Primera, with their last win coming in 2009 (1-0).

Despite their draw at Real Sociedad, this is still Barcelona's highest-scoring start to a season in LigaBBVA since 1984.

Osasuna have failed to score in 10 of their last 15 league meetings with Barcelona.

All seven of Barcelona's league goals this season have come from open play.

The Azulgrana have, along with Granada and Sporting, conceded the most headed goals (2) in LigaBBVA this season.

Last season Osasuna won three of their four matches with Muniz Fernandez as referee, vs Real Madrid, Malaga and Sevilla, drawing the other away to Valencia.

Since 2000, Barcelona have only won both of their opening two games on three occasions.

The last time Osasuna won one of their opening two league games was in 2005/06, when they finished fourth.

Getafe - Rayo Vallecano

This is the first time that Getafe and Rayo have met in the top flight.

Rayo have only ever beaten Getafe once in Segunda: 0-1 in 1976.

In 10 meetings in the second tier, the two sides have drawn six times.

Getafe have scored three goals against Rayo in both of their home wins in Segunda.

Rayo Vallecano have played in 13 campaigns in Primera, compared to just eight for Getafe.

However, Rayo have never played in more than four consecutive campaigns in the top flight, compared to eight for the Azulones (currently).

Geta have won four games at home in Primera against other Madrid sides: one against Atletico, three against Real Madrid.

Rayo Vallecano have won none of their last 11 matches against other sides from Madrid in Primera, losing eight.

Granada v Villarreal

This will be the first-ever meeting between these two sides in the top-flight.

The only previous meeting between Granada and Villarreal was in the second round of the Copa del Rey in 2001: on that occasion, the Andalusians came out on top on penalties after drawing 1-1.

Granada are one of the three sides yet to score their first goal in this campaign; the other two are Atletico Madrid and Real Zaragoza.

Granada have started this campaign with two defeats; taking their run of consecutive top-flight defeats to seven.

Granada's last win in the top-flight was in 1976 (1-0 vs Las Palmas); that was also the last time they kept a clean sheet.

Villarreal have picked up only three points from their last six league games between this and last season, as a result of three draws.

Away from home the Yellow Submarine have a record of two draws and four defeats in the last six games, and are without a win since March (1-0 vs Athletic Bilbao).

Giuseppe Rossi and co. have failed to score in each of their last four league games on the road, and conceded five in their last trip away from home against Barcelona.

They have never before failed to score in five consecutive away league games in the top flight.

This is the worst start to a Liga season for Villarreal since 2006/07: on that occasion they finished 5th after taking only one point from the first two match-days.

On the two previous occasions that Granada had no points after two games in La Liga, they avoided relegation (in 1957/58 and 1968/69).

Levante - Real Madrid

Real Madrid have only lost once against Levante in the league, winning 10 and drawing one.

Following their goalless draw with Levante last season, Real Madrid put together their best winning streak of the campaign (seven).

The goalless draw last season was also the first time that Real Madrid had failed to win at Levante in the league.

The merengues have had their highest-scoring start to a top-flight campaign since 1987/88 when they scored in 11 in two games.

Madrid have won the last 62 matches in which they have taken the lead in the league.

Levante are, along with Rayo Vallecano, the only side in LigaBBVA to have drawn their opening two league games this season. In 2010/11 they lost their opening three games.

Cristiano Ronaldo has the best minutes per goal ratio in LigaBBVA this season (one per 45 mins) along with Soldado, but has never scored against Levante.

Levante and Sporting de Gijon were the only two sides not to concede a goal to either Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi in LigaBBVA last season.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored in his last six league appearances, bagging 15 goals in total.

On the two previous occasions that Real Madrid have scored at least 10 goals over the opening two matchdays, they have won the league.

Mallorca v Málaga

Mallorca have won only one of their last six league meetings with Málaga, and two of the last 10.

Last season's 2-0 win over the boquerones ended a run of four home matches without a victory for Mallorca against Malaga.

Mallorca have managed only one win from their last seven league matches.

However, they have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four games at home, including the 1-0 win over Espanyol in the opening game of this campaign.

By beating Granada 4-0 on Monday, Málaga ended a run of three consecutive league games without a win between this and last campaign.

Málaga have scored in each of their last six league games on the road, winning three of these.

Only Real Madrid (10) and Barcelona (seven) have scored more goals than Málaga (five) over the first two match-days of La Liga.

Manuel Pellegrini has won three of his four previous meetings with Michael Laudrup in La Liga, losing the other.

Real Zaragoza - Espanyol

Espanyol have taken just one point from the last 27 available away from home in Primera.

Zaragoza are yet to score in the league this season.

The manos' draw against Rayo in their last match was their first in 15 league games (seven wins, seven defeats).

Zaragoza have lost none of their last five games at home to Espanyol in LigaBBVA.

The periquitos have only won six of their 53 meetings with Zaragoza away from home in the top-flight.

Sergio Garcia was responsible for four of Espanyol's six shots on target against Athletic.

Last season, Paradas Romero was one of only two referees not to award a penalty to a visiting side in LigaBBVA (along with Mateu Lahoz).

There have been seven goals in the last 15 minutes in the last eight league clashes between these sides.

Real Sociedad have won just one of their last 10 league meetings with Sevilla.

The blanquiazules' last league defeat on the road came at the Nervion (1-3).

Three of Sevilla's four league goals this term have been bagged by Negredo: one with his head, on with his right foot and one with his left.

Three of Real Sociedad's four league goals this season have been scored by Aguirretxe, each of them headers.

The donostiarra forward has already equally his LigaBBVA tally from last season, in which he also scored at Sevilla.

Real Sociedad have scored all four of their goals from headers in the league this season, more than any other side.

Kanoute has scored in all four of his league meetings with Erreala, bagging six goals in total.

Xabi Prieto and Jesus Navas are two of only four players to have assisted more than one goal in LigaBBVA this season.

Both sides are unbeaten in the league this season.

Neither side has ever won with José Antonio Teixeira Vitienes as their referee (Sevilla, two defeats, Real Sociedad, one draw).

Sporting - Valencia

Valencia are unbeaten on their last four visits to El Molinon in LigaBBVA (three wins, one draw).

Just two of the 38 league meetings between the sides at Sporting have ended goalless.

The Asturians have won just two of their last 12 league meetings with Valencia in LigaBBVA.

This is Sporting's worst start to the season since losing their opening five games in 2008/09.

This is the fifth time that Sporting have lost their opening two games in the top flight, after 1951, 73, 97 and 2008.

Of the four previous occasions, they were only relegated once (97/98).

In the last three seasons the Valencian side have gone unbeaten in each of their opening three league games.

Valencia made the most changes in their starting line-up of all Primera sides after the opening day (six).

Valencia have had the most headed shots in La Liga this season (nine).

Last season Valencia won the joint-most games by a one-goal margin (11), this season both of their wins have been by this amount.

After Barcelona and Real Madrid, Sporting conceded the fewest league goals last season (42).

Only once in the last 10 seasons have Valencia lost one of their opening three league games (August 2007 vs Villarreal).
