SPL Opta Facts – 17-18 September


Dunfermline v Hibernian

Dunfermline won their last SPL meeting with Hibernian 1-0 in April 2007.

However, prior to this they had lost four in a row against Hibs and were without a win in nine.

The Pars have won only one of their last eight league matches at home against Hibernian.

Only once before have Hibs had fewer points after six SPL games than this season (2002/03, three).

On the last two occasions that Dunfermline have had at least eight points after six games in the SPL they have finished 5th (02/03) and 4th (2003/04).

Dunfermline have won none of their last four SPL matches at home, conceding at least three goals in three of those.

Hibs have only won one of their last 12 SPL games.

Aberdeen v Kilmarnock

Aberdeen won their last meeting with Killie 5-0 in February, but have scored just 0.63 goals per game in the league since then.

There has not been a red card in any of the last 22 meetings between the sides in the SPL.

Kilmarnock have won four of their last five league clashes with the Dons.

Aberdeen have only beaten Hibs (19 times) more often in the SPL than Kilmarnock (17).

Only once before have Killie netted more SPL goals after six games, when they scored 16 in 2005/06.

Only once before have Aberdeen had fewer points after seven SPL games (four in 03/04) than they have this season (five).

The Dons have only scored in one of their last seven league games.

Dundee Utd v Inverness CT

United have lost only one of their last seven league meetings with Caley Thistle.

Dundee United did not receive a single card in any of their three meetings with Inverness last season.

The Terrors have won only three of their last 10 SPL matches at home to Inverness.

United are yet to win at home in the league this season.

Inverness are yet to win on the road in the league this season.

United have gone behind in more SPL games this season than any other side (six), but have recouped three of these to draws.

The Terrors have scored the most goals from set pieces in the competition this season (five).

Hearts v St Mirren

Hearts have won five of their last six league games at home to St Mirren, drawing the other.

Rudi Skacel scored five goals in just two appearances against the Saints last season.

The Jambos have won their last three SPL matches against St Mirren, though they have never beaten them four times in a row.

Only once before have Hearts scored fewer goals after seven SPL matches, five in 2004/05.

St Mirren have conceded under eight goals in their first seven SPL matches for the first time ever.

Hearts have won their last two league games at Tynecastle.

St Mirren are unbeaten in four league away matches, winning two.

The Saints have never gone unbeaten in five on the road, however.

Motherwell v St Johnstone

Motherwell have won three of their last four league matches last season.

The Steelmen only have a higher win percentage against Inverness (55%) than St Johnstone (50%) in the SPL.

However Motherwell have won only one of their last five league matches at home to the Saints.

13 points from six games is the Steelmen's joint-best start to an SPL season.

Excluding games against the Old Firm, Motherwell have won four of their five league matches this season, drawing the other.

The Saints are unbeaten in their last six SPL games on the road.

Rangers v Celtic

Celtic have won only three of their last SPL matches after a game in Europe.

The Bhoys have lost their last two Old Firm league derbies after playing in Europe during the week (March 2007 and October 2009).

Only two current players have scored more than once in Old Firm SPL derbies, Gary Hooper and Georgios Samaras (three each, all for Celtic).

Three of Celtic's last seven SPL goals at Rangers have been penalties.

Rangers have failed to score in their last three Old Firm SPL derbies.

The last five clashes between Rangers and Celtic in all competitions have produced five red cards.

Last season was the first time that Rangers won the SPL despite picking up fewer points in Old Firm derbies than Celtic.

Celtic have never conceded fewer than two goals in their opening six league matches.

Rangers have conceded just one goal in their opening six SPL games for the first time ever.

The Gers are on a run of 16 league games unbeaten, winning 14 of these.

During this period they have kept 13 clean sheets. In this game they could become the first SPL side to keep six successive clean sheets since September 2002.

Similarly, Celtic have kept a clean sheet in their last five league matches. Only once before has a side kept six successive clean sheets on the road in the SPL, Rangers in April this year.

Celtic have bagged five league goals in the opening 15 minutes of SPL games this season: no other side has scored more than one in this period.
